I spend a great deal of time studying, researching and making period pieces. Whenever possible, I provide the name of the original silversmith, the Museum housing the piece or an archaeological site where the piece was found. The same trade silver piece may come from a number of different sites, and space sometimes limits listing them all.
We work in sterling silver, 14kt yellow gold, brass and pewter. I do not work in german (nickel) silver, which actually contains no silver and was not used for trade silver prior to 1850.
